Manchester United’s friendly with Preston North End on Saturday has been cancelled.
This is because United have “identified a small number of suspected positive [Covid] cases. This has led to those people isolating, pending further tests.”
This leaves United with one last friendly, against Everton on August 7, before they get their season underway against Leeds the following week.
It’s been a mixed start to the summer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with a victory over Derby County being followed by a 4-2 defeat at QPR and an entertaining 2-2 draw with newly-promoted Brentford at Old Trafford.
United have been far more successful in the transfer market after signing Jadon Sancho and agreeing a deal for Raphael Varane, with the centre-back set to undergo a medical next week.
They may have to wait to sign Kieran Trippier, though, as the right-back expects a move to materialise towards the end of the transfer window.
United prioritised the signings of Sancho and Varane and have now placed an emphasis on outgoings in order to secure any more incomings.
Trippier, 30, has entered the last year of his Atletico Madrid contract and wants to join boyhood club United, having arranged for his family to relocate to Manchester.
