Lipstick is one item that can often make or break a makeup look.
Whether it’s the perfect shade or it bleeds (or if for some reason nobody stopped you from wearing a royal blue that did not go with your outfit) we’ve all seen what an impact your lip colour can have.
Today is National Lipstick Day (July 29) and to honour the occasion, ASOS is donating 100% of profits from lipsticks sold on ASOS.com to Look Good Feel Better.
Look Good Feel Better is a national charity that “helps boost the physical and emotional wellbeing of people living with cancer through free online and (post Covid) face to face Workshops, printed materials and tutorials.”
I tried some of ASOS’s best selling lipsticks (and balms) so you can know just what they’re like before committing to a new addition to your makeup bag.

Red is a bold shade, which can be intimidating for a lot of people.
It can also be the colour pop that makes your entire look when you’ve opted for a monochromatic look (I know I’m partial to a bold lip when I slip on a little black dress).
This matte lip colour slid on effortlessly, the formula was smooth and left my lips feeling really moisturised.
It’s quite a vampy red, but it mellows out ever so slightly once it dries. The name Power Trip is definitely fitting as it’s the exact shade that makes you feel like you belong in a boardroom.

Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick – El Cinco De Mayo – £22.00
The Power Bullet has a red and black ombre design that makes it stand out in your makeup bag
If (like me) you find yourself ever so slightly intimidated by liquid lipsticks, then worry not.
Huda Beauty has an incredible red lipstick in a more traditional format that’s been flying off the shelves at ASOS.
This is a classic red that would go down a treat at any evening events and might even overtake MAC’s Ruby Woo as my go to red lip.
It has an easy application and didn’t bleed (and also came off really easily, which is a massive plus as I can’t stand when red lipstick leaves my lips stained and looking sore after I take it off).
This is such a perfect red lipstick, it belongs in all makeup bags

It’s no surprise that nude tones are the big best selling lipsticks this summer, they’re a classic that don’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon.
I’d heard rave reviews about this lipstick, and I was not left disappointed.
It slid on easily and didn’t leave me worried about bleeding or my lips drying out.
My lips felt moisturised and the nude shade complimented my skin perfectly, I didn’t think it was possible to have my head turned from Velvet Teddy but I think this is my new go to nude shade.
It works perfectly with any look and I’ll definitely have one of these in my makeup bag at all times.
It quickly became apparent why this shade is such a fan favourite

MAC Matte Lipstick – Velvet Teddy – £17.50

Velvet Teddy has been my go to nude (alongside Whirl) for years, it’s hardly a surprise that it is a constant best seller.
The colour works perfectly with any look, I don’t find it dries out my lips and I’ve never had issues with bleeding.
It’s a great nude lip shade and a definite must in any makeup bag.

MAC Matte Lipstick – Honey Love – £17.50

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Honey Love – Whirl and Velvet Teddy (yes, both at the same time) have been my go to shades with MAC for as long as I can remember.
Honey Love is a nice nude shade, and the application was the typical MAC that I’ve grown to love.
I think it’s a lovely shade, but a touch too light for me. This will work really well in the winter when summer tans have worn off.
It’s a nice muted nude and I think with the right lip liner could be really great.

Revolution Pro New Neutrals Satin Matte Lipstick – Velvet – £6.00
Velvet offers a really nice finish in a pinkish nude shade

This lipstick goes on really smooth, the satin matte finish left my lips feeling moisturised and I liked how it looked.
It was quite pink for a nude but would work really well as a dinner lipstick.
I really liked the finish and think it’s definitely worth trying out these Satin Matte Lipsticks, which come in a number of different shades.

Stripped definitely isn’t my shade, the pale pink had the effect of wearing concealer as a lipstick for me.
I think this would be great for people with more pale complexions.

Revolution Dream Kiss Lip Balm – Watermelon Heaven – £5.00
This lip balm took me right back to my youth

When I was younger I would often get Bratz inspired makeup kits that included scented lip colours and bright eye colours.
As soon as I opened this lip balm, I felt transported back to those days. The artificial watermelon scent reminded me of chewing gum over the summer holidays and the balm itself goes on really smooth.
It gave my lips a faint pink sheen that would work really well for a summer day look.

Revolution Dream Kiss Lip Balm – Cravin’ Coconuts – £4.00
This lip balm had a lovely scent

This lip balm (that doubles as an overnight lip mask) has the hydrating ingredient so many of us are obsessed with: hyaluronic acid.
With the faint smell of coconut it goes on a treat, the smooth formula had my lips feeling instantly softer and moisturised – it gave my lips a slight sheen that was more mild than a gloss.
