Lionel Messi’s impending move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain has handed Manchester United a boost in their hopes of signing Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to reports.
It is reported that Camavinga, who is out-of-contract at Rennes next summer, is eager to seal a move to the French giants, but his dreams have now suddenly become ‘more complicated’ as they look to land Messi.
According to French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, as cited by the Daily Star, Jonathan Barnett – Camavinga’s agent – is keen to push his client towards a move to Old Trafford, but uncertainty surrounds the midfielder’s future, with PSG remaining his preferred location.
However, with Messi destined to join PSG, United could now find themselves in pole position to sign the central-midfielder.
Despite only being 18-years-old, Camavinga has already made a real name for himself, racking up 67 appearances in Ligue 1 in his career so far.
Meanwhile, United remain keen on signing Atletico Madrid and England right-back Kieran Trippier, also according to the Daily Star.
United, who beat Everton 4-0 in their final pre-season outing on Saturday afternoon, are desperate to strengthen their right-back options before the end of the transfer window and Tripper is right at the very top of their wish list.
However, the Spanish giants are refusing to budge on their £34million valuation of the former Tottenham Hotspur defender. Tripper has a release clause of £34million in his contract and Atletico are only willing to let him go if that price is met.
It is reported that United, who are edging closer and closer to finalising the signing of Raphael Varane, are only willing to pay £18million for the 30-year-old, which explains the delay concerning their pursuit of his signature.
Tripper is understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League and Old Trafford is believed to be his preferred destination.
Elsewhere, according to a report by Football Insider, Swansea City have agreed a deal with United to sign defender Ethan Laird on loan.
It is reported that Laird, who spent a period of last season on loan at MK Dons, will join the Championship side on a season-long loan.
Laird will be reunited with former Dons manager Russell Martin after he recently succeeded Steve Cooper as Swansea boss.
Laid, 20, claimed four assists in 24 League One outings last season. He has made two senior appearances for United in his career.
