Everton are to explore the possibility of signing Denzel Dumfries on loan.
The Blues have held lengthy internal discussions about signing the PSV Eindhoven right-back, who is valued at around £15m by the Dutch club.
Director of football Marcel Brands is keen on adding the 25-year-old Holland international to the squad and sees him as the long-term successor to Seamus Coleman.
But after several rounds of talks with Rafa Benitez, following his appointment as Everton boss at the end of June, it has now been decided the club will look into the chances of signing Dumfries on loan initially.

Everton signed Djibril Sidibe on loan in the summer of 2019 and included an option to buy the AS Monaco right-back for around £13m, but after an inconsistent season, the Blues passed up on the chance.
Dumfries had been attracting interest from Inter Milan but Everton are still in the market for the PSV man.
