Like many, Levanter Fine Foods, on Square Street, was impacted by the pandemic but according to customers, for the better.
After a decision was made to close the square off to traffic, the Ramsbottom restaurant utilised the space to add an outside seating area, something that has been a hit with customers.
In addition to this new space, diners are also raving about the food, with its small plates said to rival the tapas dishes you might usually find on the menu elsewhere.
In particular, there are some standout choices that customers would recommend, including the Malagan fried fish which is a ‘favourite with regulars’.
It includes deep fried salt cod, squid, king prawns and whitebait with aioli.
The Malagan fried fish is a popular dish on the menu
That’s not the only dish on the menu that’s been highly recommended by diners, according to 2Chill user Toby Chapman, who rated the restaurant five stars, the prawns, the anchovies, the pork loin skewers, the crab and the octopus are all a must try.
Leaving his recommendation on 2Chill, Toby said: “Levanter Fine Foods is normally a tiny tapas restaurant but in a bizarre twist, the pandemic has done it a favour thanks to a decision to close Square Street creating a wonderful traffic-free al fresco dining space.
“And as a result, the covers have more than doubled. The whole area is covered against the rain and with heaters if needed. It’s a great space.”
Obviously a big fan of the food, he added: “Levanter serves up top-quality Spanish small plates that are definitely a few notches up on the usual tapas fare.
Toby’s recommendation for Levanter Fine Foods
“The gambas cooked with chilli and garlic were magnificent and require extra bread for dipping as the fishy juice is divine. Anchovies served in oil with a touch of lemon juice were simple but delicious, while the Iberico pork loin skewers with chorizo were excellent.
“The baked crab was rich and moreish and the octopus cooked well. The Malaga fried fish selection (spied on numerous other tables) looks to be a favourite with regulars. The main challenge is trying not to order too many dishes.”
If you’ve ever been to a Spanish tapas restaurant then you’ll know how much of a challenge that really is.
The anchovies in oil were another of Toby’s favourites
The wine list was also a hit with Toby with him adding: “An interesting wine list also includes a good range of aperitif sherry options which is a welcome surprise.
“It’s the kind of place you start counting the days until your next visit as soon as it’s time to pay the bill.”
It sounds like Toby is a regular.
