Liverpool fans have expressed their delight over the news on Wednesday evening that Alisson Becker has signed a new six-year contract with the Reds.
The Brazilian number one briefly became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in July 2018 when he signed from Roma for a fee of around £67m.
Fast proving himself to be one of finest ‘keepers of his generation, Alisson has been a pivotal member of the sides that have won the Premier League and Champions League under Jurgen Klopp.

His new terms will reflect the world-class reputation that he has established for himself at Anfield.
And his deal follows quickly off the back of contract extensions for both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho.
Several other of the Reds’ senior stars are also undergoing negotiations, as the club looks to retain the core of Klopp’s team.
Having enjoyed watching Alisson as the team’s last line of defence for the past three seasons, fans couldn’t contain their excitement at the prospect of him being Liverpool’s first-choice ‘keeper for many more years to come.
And plenty made the same joke about his goalscoring antics…
@SimonBrayLFC: “We all know the main reason for Alisson’s new contract was to negotiate in a goal bonus clause”.
@gavhanson: “Hope they’ve given Alisson a goal bonus the big sexy match winner”.
@TimBolton01: “I presume Alisson’s new contract involves a goal bonus?”
@carlmarkham: “No confirmation from the club as to whether Alisson has a goal bonus written into his new deal…”
Here is a round-up of what other Reds were saying on social media:
After signing his new contract Alisson told the club website, “I think I didn’t waste too much time to think about that. It’s something we just built in those last three years, the confidence, the trust that I have in the club and the club has in myself.
“Me and my family, we are really happy here. My kids are settled in England, in a different country, but they are growing up in that way. So we are really happy. I’m really glad that I can keep going on with my work here, doing a good job here. So, I’m really happy to make this decision – that is not hard for me.”
Talking about his ambitions, following a difficult campaign for the club last season, he added, “We have to set goals and we have to set them high – winning everything that we are playing [for], the Champions League, Premier League, the cups, everything. I think we can start from there.”
