Media City is home to BBC studios, shops, and of course the iconic Coronation Street set but according to locals, it’s also well worth a visit for those wanting to eat out.
In fact, there were three bars and restaurants in particular that are loved by diners according to one reviewer on 2Chill that should be on your list to visit next time you are in the area.
That’s pretty handy to know given just how much choice there is in the area.
Rating the Salford complex as four stars, 2Chill user Susan Griffin said: “Head on the tram to MediaCityUK where a futuristic glass cityscape meets Manchester’s old ship canal.
Susan’s review of MediaCityUK and its restaurants
“Just outside the city centre, here you’ll find the Lowry Outlet Mall, The Lowry theatre, Imperial War Museum North, which always has some stunning exhibitions, and just over the bridge, there’s no missing the Coronation Street set as it’s literally emblazoned in huge letters.
“The Dock Yard, The Alchemist and The Botanist are all lovely places to stop for a drink and a bite to eat.”
So what can diners expect from these three venues?
The Dock Yard
One of three across the region, The Dock Yard is a rustic ale house that is a must for those who enjoy a cold beer. Although it does serve food, including burgers, wings and sandwiches, it’s the drink selection that’s the main appeal – it offers an unrivalled selection of craft ales, beers and ciders from all over the world.
Diners can also get involved in its twice-monthly quiz or sit back and enjoy live music from acoustic acts and bands that perform every Thursday from 8pm.
The bar known for its theatrical cocktails – think bubbles, smoke, glitter, even colour-changing – every cocktail is a work of art and you have to order at least one while you’re there, although wine and beer is on the menu too.
As well as offering diners something different and exciting with its drinks, the food is also pretty creative, definitely worthy of some photos on Instagram. The menu includes steamed dumplings, gyozas, bao buns, burgers, sandwiches and fajitas. Its breakfast menu sounds pretty special too.

Another bar with a pretty impressive cocktail menu is The Botanist. But it’s the decor and the atmosphere at this bar that seems to be impressing diners.
With trinkets and curiosities hanging from the walls and serving up botanical cocktails, it’s described as a ‘secret garden of food and drink’.
Some of its summer specials include an elderflower and apricot spritz, a blood orange Aperol spritz and a watermelon spritz.
Although there are some delicious sounding mains including the lamb and mint pie, it’s pretty famous for its hanging kebabs.
Have you visited one of these three restaurants in Media City? Would you agree with Susan’s rating? Or is there another venue in the area you think is the best?
